Barcelona's latest attempt to register Dani Olmo for the remainder of the season has been rejected by the Spanish football federation and LaLiga.
Olmo, 26, joined Barca this summer in a £50m move from RB Leipzig amidst the Catalan club's well-documented financial difficulties.
The Spain international was forced to spend the multiple weeks on the sidelines upon arrival due to the club's financial situation preventing further registrations.
Barca were eventually able to field both Olmo and team-mate Pau Victor by securing temporary registrations that expired on December 31.
The decision means both players are now free agents, with Olmo having a clause in his contract that he can leave the club without a fee if he goes unregistered.
An initial appeal on Monday proved unsuccessful and their latest attempt to re-register Olmo and Victor has also been denied in the latest blow for Hansi Flick's side.
A statement from the Spanish FA read: The monitoring committee of the RFEF-La Liga coordination agreement has met to address the request for prior visa and processing of the federation licences of the players Mr Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr Pau Víctor Delgado, issued by FC Barcelona.
'After FCB complied with the requirements in terms of economic control of La Liga on 3 January 2025, and once the relevant documentation has been completed by the club, the La Liga budget validation body has decided to extend the cost limit of FC Barcelona's sports squad from that date.
'In this sense, having requested the licences for the aforementioned players by FC Barcelona and after analysing the applicable regulations, the monitoring committee agrees not to grant the prior visa or the definitive licence requested by FC Barcelona for the players.'
Fabrizio Romano subsequently reported that Barcelona have not been deterred by the latest setback and that the club will look to appeal the decision.
The club are reportedly set to appeal their case in Spain’s national sports council, the Consejo Superior de Deportes.

To say Laporta is worse than bartomeu Is beyond naive. Bartomeu should be in prison for the situation he put Barcelona In I don't agree with laporta and the decisions he made (levers) etc but he really didn't have much of an option as the club was in such a financial mess. Also his appointment and persistent backing of the self serving individual that is deco . Fans need to be realistic and knew there was going to be issues for the foreseeable. However with flick in charge and better chances of winning trophies , use of la Masia talents, further participation in CL , barca will start improving the financial outlook. They just need to be shrewd with signings and if they get opportunities to sell the likes of raphinha they should take it. Yes he is playing well, but his next contract will be very expensive to the club so with his stock high, any club who bids a great amount for him, they should accept.
