Barcelona invite Elche to contest Gamper Trophy

Elche have reportedly received an offer from Barcelona to contest the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Both teams don't start their LaLiga Santander campaigns until September 26 or 27 because of their involvement in competitive games in August.

According to Onda Cero Elche, the newly promoted side have been offered the chance to play Barcelona at the Camp Nou on either September 19 or 20.

Elche are due to be facing Atletico Baleares on September 19 as part of their preparations for the new season, but they are now considering Barcelona's request.

Coincidentally, Barcelona and Elche were meant to play each other on the opening weekend of LaLiga Santander but the fixture has been postponed until the new year.
