Nineteen-year-old Brazilian forward Gustavo Maia could be on his way to Barcelona in the summer.
The club are considering whether or not to exercise an option to buy which they purchased in March for one million euros.
If they do so in the next transfer window, they would owe his club, Sao Paulo, a further 3.5m euros.
The financial situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic has reopened the debate about whether to sign the winger and a final decision has not yet been made by the Barcelona hierarchy.
The club have until July 30 to exercise the option, but Barcelona are monitoring various players, and their finances, before making any final call.
