On August 18th (CEST), Spanish TV station La Sexta reporter Jota Jordi stated on air that Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin may reconsider his position and that Barcelona will keep pushing until the final moments before the summer transfer window closes. Should they fail to sign Alvarez this summer, Barcelona intend to pursue him again in the January window.
Jota Jordi said on the program: "As I understand it, if Gil Marin changes his mind—which I believe he eventually will—Barcelona can easily afford a transfer fee exceeding 100 million euros. Barcelona will not abandon their pursuit of Alvarez."
"The club will wait until the last moment before the summer window closes to continue its attempts to sign Alvarez. If the deal does not go through this summer, Barcelona will launch another bid in January, with an offer still in the region of 100 million euros."
