Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu was delighted after Ajax reached the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Madrid - with the club’s new signing Frenkie de Jong shining.
Bartomeu phoned up the player to speak with him and explained so to Cadena SER.
“I spoke with him and he was very happy,” said Bartomeu. “I was also very happy for him because I’m sure the games and knock-outs will make him a better player.”
The Barca president paid 86 million for De Jong and gave him a message back when he signed his contract with the Catalans - “knock out Real Madrid”
A desire which the Dutchman has accomplished.
