After the decade of guerrilla filming within football clubs occurred in the 1990s, teams shut their doors to the public, fearing the PR hell which had followed Graham Taylor, John Sitton and even Barry Fry, yet with Amazon Prime making the process appear professional and glitzy, Bayern Munich agreed to a documentary following their 2019/20 season, and it will feature the 8-2 victory over Barcelona.
Following the lead of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, cameras were granted exclusive access into what had appeared to be a troublesome campaign for the Bavarian giants, as they dismissed Niko Kovac as coach and hired former Die Mannschaft assistant, Hansi Flick as his interim replacement.
What followed was a Cinderella story perfect for the silver screen, albeit this documentary will mostly be viewed on mobile phones, as Bayern Munich powered their way to a treble of success with the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League titles all arriving at the end of the season.
"The cameras follow Hansi Flick's team and take the fans along with them to the very heart of Bayern Munich," a club statement read.
"Last season's historic success in winning the treble, as well as the German and European Super Cups, as well as the upcoming Club World Cup will feature.
"The documentary, which will be broadcast exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the spring, brings people closer to what lies behind the history of the record-breaking German champions."
