Bayern Munich chief Uli Hoeness has admitted that the 2014 sale of Toni Kroos to Real Madrid may have been a mistake.
The Germany international was sold to the Bernabeu for €25m shortly after helping the national side to life the World Cup in Brazil, after talks to extend his contract at the Bundesliga giants broke down.
But in a new film by German director Manfred Oldenburg that charts Kroos’s life from his childhood in the town of Greifswald, Bayern president Hoeness expresses regret that his man was allowed to leave so easily.
“An association sometimes has to make hard decisions,” said Hoeness. “And that was a tough one, maybe the wrong one."
In the film, which draws on contributions from people close to the player as well as from Kroos himself, the 29-year-old gives his own feelings on why he felt his interests were best served by leaving Bayern at the height of his powers.
"I was often told how great I am and how right I am doing everything, but I did not play," said Kroos.
Ex-midfielder Matthias Sammer, who made 74 international appearances between 1986-97 including 21 for the former East Germany, called Kroos “one of the greatest conductors German football ever had".

Toni kroos, the best midfielder in the world in his position without doubt, he's the greatest ever conductor of the game, the best engine Germany has ever produced. he runs the show letting the game to run through him. Blessed with a footballing brain that can cause oppenents to think twice before losing their man, those passes, switch of plays, corners and calmness on the ball is still the dream of the best midfielders in the world. he already won a world Cup with Germany,treble with bayern, 3 UCL in a row with Madrid and also the German player of the year, twice. imagine another UCL or international glory and he's definitely in the top 5 midfielders of all time. I know he had a bad season but his standards are so high, no barca midfielder had more keypasses than him even in this season, another stat which shows how underrated he is. mark my words, at the end of his career, he will be legend enough to walk into real's and Germany's best 11 of all time

yeah if you are fan boy that doesnt watch Bayern because if you did you wouldnt say that and you would be aware that he had a 40 goal season after the money was offered by United and last year broke the most score involvements record in 1 campaign with 15 goals and 15 assists so dont see your point not to mention he is a golden and silver boot winner @ the world cup and quite arguably should have won two golden balls at both those world cups! so I think when even a born and bread Bavarian is doing that you keep them at all costs .. well if you understand the culture and fabric of the club you suposidely support which is apparently bayern münchen!
i have been a Bayern fan since 82 i have watched about 75 percent of their games since than Mueller has lost a couple of steps since 2014 no goals in 2016 Euros no goals in 18 world cup and no goals in knockout games in CL the writing was on the wall because he's a Bavarian Bayern doesn't want to sell him he's a liability in big games since you know so much tell me what other big clubs will take Mueller as a starter

Bayern 12/13 had the most balanced team I've ever seen. Solid in defence, great in possession, compact in midfield (Schweinsteiger/Martinez) lethal on the counter, pace and precision on the flanks (Robbery) , good no 10s (Kroos/ Muller) and 2 deadly target men (Mandzukic/Gomez.)

If Bayern didn't hire Pep, by now they would still have homegrown players like Kroos, Gotze, Draxler, Can, Sane, Werner etc and a coach like Klopp. Pep changed a philosophy like he always do, Barca was perfect fit for him, Man City can meet his demands but Bayern was a mismatch.
