Bayern 'eye £43m flop Militao as replacement for Real Madrid target Alaba'

Bayern Munich are reportedly considering a move for out-of-favour Real Madrid defender Eder Militao to replace David Alaba.

Militao, 22, was a £43million signing for Madrid in the summer of 2019 but has failed to establish himself at the Bernabeu behind Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, featuring only three times in the current campaign in all competitions.

Bayern are eyeing up a replacement for Alaba, who is set to leave the club when his contract ends this summer, with Madrid believed to be favourites to secure a free transfer for the defender.

And Mundo Deportivo report the Bavarians have added Madrid's Militao to their list of potential replacements for the Austrian.

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has long been linked with a switch to the Allianz Arena, but the report indicates Militao is seen as a 'Plan B' if the Frenchman decides to leave Germany.

Sportsmail reported last week Militao is also on the list of Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho's list of targets, while he has also been linked with a return to Porto.

The defender, who has been capped nine times by Brazil, is likely to be allowed to leave, but Madrid could command a fee similar to their £43m outlay on him.

Militao was part of Madrid's summer splurge on Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Farland Mendy, and his departure would further signal their failure in that 2019 attempt to rejuvenate the squad.

Alaba is highly expected to leave Bayern this summer after 12 trophy-laden years, and is a target for some of Europe's top clubs.

Madrid's rivals Barcelona and Premier League side Liverpool are also clubs to be linked with the versatile defender.

The Guardian reported earlier this month that Jurgen Klopp's outfit are 'pushing hard' to land the 28-year-old, who could help solve their defensive injury crisis.
