Bayern Munich held a secret meeting with the representatives of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamencano on Thursday, according to new information from Germany.

The highly-rated French defender is available for just £38million this summer due to a release clause in the player's contract, with Bayern one of several top clubs across Europe interested in the player's signature.

Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed the club's interest earlier this month but German news outlet BILD claims there was a secret meeting between the Bundesliga giants and Upamecano's agents from Sports360.

The report claims the Frenchman's agents, Sascha Breese and Volker Struth, were spotted entering the underground car park of Bayern Munich's offices just after 4pm on Thursday.

The pair were seen leaving the complex at around 7pm on the same evening after a meeting with Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, with BILD claiming the meeting held this week was about Upamecano's future.

The German giants have a good relationship with the Sports360 agency as they also represent Bayern defender Niklas Sule and midfielder Adrian Fien, who is currently on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

Upamecano's performances for current club RB Leipzig have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe.

The 22-year-old was a regular for Julian Nagelsmann's side last season as they reached the Champions League semi-finals and finished third in the Bundesliga.

The Frenchman has played in all but one of Leipzig's German league matches this season as Nagelsmann's men currently lie second in the table, seven points behind leaders Bayern.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all registered interest in Upamecano this summer as they look to take advantage of the defender's low release clause.

But Bayern are the only club to have made a public declaration regarding the Frenchman's signature, with Bayern chief Rummenigge claiming the German giants are already working on a deal.

Rummenigge told Bild Live earlier this month: 'We will of course deal with it (a deal for Upamecano), not only with this player, but in principle, on the positions where we want to do and have to do something.'
