According to reports from AS, Bernal has a place in Barcelona's squad for the new season, and in Flick's eyes, he ranks higher than De Jong in terms of playing time.
The report states that Raúl Verdú, one of Bernal's agents, who belongs to Roc Nation Sports International, met with sporting director Deco this Wednesday to clarify the midfielder's situation in the team, given Rodri's imminent arrival.
The midfielder's primary demand is to get playing time. Rodri's arrival will inevitably squeeze Bernal's playing minutes.
However, Bernal is still in Flick's plans and Barcelona's team-building blueprint. Only if the player himself actively pushes to leave will the club consider loaning him out.
Deco and Flick are both clear that Bernal will get game time. On the one hand, he can play in multiple midfield positions; on the other hand, in the coach's preference for players, Bernal's priority is higher than De Jong. The other two midfielders, Casado and Tommy M'Backe, will leave the team.
Bernal has a place in Barcelona's squad for the 2026-2027 season, but his team has been working on potential departures during the past two transfer windows.
Last summer, Fàbregas wanted to loan him, but Flick rejected the request at the time because he needed to monitor the recovery process of Bernal's knee injury. Now that this Italian team will compete in the Champions League, Como is likely to pursue him again.
