Betting Tips: Girona vs Huesca

The hosts have a formidable first half record, especially at Estadi Montilivi, and our tipster thinks that will improve against La Liga's bottom club

Girona will be hoping to move away from the relegation zone on Saturday night when they host basement club Huesca in La Liga.

The Catalan club begin the weekend just a point above 18th-placed Rayo Vallecano, although the could be in the bottom three by the time they play, and 888Sport make them 10/11 (1.91) to win this one.

Huesca are bottom, nine points behind Girona and safety, but look destined for the Segunda division with just three wins to their name all season. They are out at 16/5 (4.20) and the draw is available at 47/20 (3.35).

There is certainly justification in Girona being favourites, having lost only one of their last six matches at Estadi Montilivi, but for greater odds the 31/20 (2.65) price on them leading at half-time appeals.

Girona’s second half performances is the reason relegation is a real possibility this season, with their efforts in the opening 45 minutes the third-best in La Liga behind only Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

They have won the first half on eight occasions and been trailing at the break just twice, the joint-fewest in the league, with only runaway La Liga leaders Barca having led at half-time on Girona’s patch.

In fact, only four teams have even managed to even score before half-time at Estadi Montilivi this season. Eusebio Sacristan’s men have scored nine goals under that same criteria, the third-most in La Liga.

Huesca, meanwhile, have had little to shout about since gaining promotion from the Segunda Division last campaign, although they did record an excellent 4-0 win over Real Valladolid in their previous fixture.

No team has been losing at half-time more than Huesca, who have trailed on 10 out of 22 occasions and conceded 16 times, and away from home this season they have scored just nine times in 11 games.

It is very difficult to see them troubling Girona in the first half so the 31/20 (2.65) on the hosts leading at the break is an appealing option heading into Saturday night.
