Bild: Schlotterbeck awaits MRI results, Rudiger likely to start against Ecuador

Schlotterbeck's diagnosis has not yet been released. Bild consulted sports medicine expert Dr. Torsten Dolla for insight.

Dr. Dolla told Bild: "I find it a bit strange that the diagnosis hasn't been announced yet. There's speculation that it's not a swelling issue. As rumored, it appears to involve the medial ligament, which is more stable than the lateral ligament and swells less. I think the delay is mainly due to procedural reasons while the MRI images are being evaluated."

What are Schlotterbeck's chances of playing in this World Cup?

Dolla said: "Based on what I can assess from a distance, I very much hope the ligament isn't torn. If it isn't, he could return to action within two weeks and potentially feature in the tournament."

As Bild previously reported, a quick preliminary examination was conducted on the field, and the team doctor strongly suspects a ligament tear in Schlotterbeck's ankle. Schlotterbeck was in good spirits when he returned to Winston-Salem on Saturday night, able to smile despite the injury. He was accompanied by his wife Sabrina and one of their two children.

Sunday's training took place without Schlotterbeck. Notably, at the start of training, Nagelsmann spoke with team doctor Jochen Hahne on a low wall by the field for over ten minutes—there's good reason to believe Schlotterbeck was the main topic of their conversation.

If the Borussia Dortmund star is unavailable, Rudiger will partner with Tah in defense. Having performed solidly against Ivory Coast, he is likely to start in the next match as well.
