The 19-year-old put the finishing touches on his move from Manchester City to Real Madrid on Monday by coming through a medical ahead of the official presentation.
Real Madrid unveiled new signing Brahim Diaz after the teenager penned a six-and-a-half-year contract on Sunday for a reported initial fee of €17million.
City boss Pep Guardiola said the reigning Premier League champions had done "absolutely everything" to persuade the 19-year-old to sign a long-term contract extension as speculation mounted over Madrid's interest. However, the versatile attacker has opted to further his career in his native Spain.
At the presentation club president Florentino Perez stated: "We keep working to reinforce our squad with the best talent…. Brahim is a player with much talent and character who dreams being successful at the club."
The player, who will wear the No. 21 shirt then spoke stating: "I'm arriving at the club I dreamed of playing as a boy. When I decided to leave City I had just three options - 1 play for Real Madrid, 2 play for Real Madrid, 3 play for Real Madrid."
While Diaz has been signed with the long term in mind, Madrid desperately require a short-term lift after another desperate weekend.
Madrid slip again
Santiago Solari's men were beaten 2-0 at home by Real Sociedad and now trail arch-rivals and LaLiga leaders Barcelona - 2-1 winners at Getafe - by 10 points.
Monday's news agenda in Spain was also driven by footage that showed Gareth Bale leaving the Santiago Bernabeu with 12 minutes to go of the Real Sociedad game.
Bale, sidelined with a minor calf injury, was spotted speeding away from the ground with his team 1-0 down and attempting a late rally. That has led to several commentators questioning the Welshman's commitment to the European champions.

Real Madrid never understand the value of Ronaldo and others. They only focus on money. Moreover they don't believe in luck. So that many reason I think will continuously defeat from others. I think you understand what i mean.

Diaz (and Sancho) would have to compete for playing time on the wings with the likes of Sane, Sterling, and Mahrez. Diaz is more of a CAM by trade though, and in that position he'd have to compete with KdB, the Silvas, Gundogan, Foden, etc... It's not that we don't rate them. I think everyone at City rates them. But there's just no room.

he can go to another team and then make a jump to a bigger team. He is literally making this. Going to a bigger club that isn't promising him a starting XI position bur rather pre-season with them followed by a loan spell in Spain and then a possible starting spot. Judging by past Real Madrid youth development there is a very decent chance he will get at least a try out at their first team. And there really isn't a bigger club to make a jump to. I really don't think there is much (any) risk involved for Diaz with this move. He wont get a better chance with City.

For all the bitter rags on this City article Diaz has won a Premier League winners medal which is more than most of United's squad can boast.

I definitely think Brahim can be that guy, for us he's pretty much always played on the left wing but he's 2 footed so he can probably play anywhere. One of those dribblers who looks at his feet and might not be aware if he should have passed to a teammate instead of shooting himself. Sometimes you need a "selfish" forward though, he's a good player.

There hasn’t really ever been any confirmation to suggest this, but I wonder if City perhaps had a +1 option on his contract so the 6 months remaining was in name only. It’s a bit strange that they’re paying so much if not but we’ll take it. They didn’t have a +1. Brahim was free to go anywhere come July. But as a City fan I’m ok with the 20 mil.

Diaz played for Pep Guardiola. That kinda puts him at a place higher than Vini IMO. He will be way better technically than Vini.

Yes we need some signings for the first team but we can’t be mad about signing Díaz.

But Diaz is in the same boat as Vinicius, if not one below. Vinicius was a starter in a team in the Brazilian league, Diaz has only had League Cup action. If Madrid wanted to spark their attack, this was not the way to go.

For that price he is good but I still don’t understand Madrid’s transfer policy as of late. Vinicius, Rodrygo, Mariano, Diaz, soon to be Palacios. Feels like building a squad for 2023. Odegard, Llorente, Valverde, Lunin, Hakimi & Vallejo. Madrid has the best 2023 team of all time /s?
