Braithwaite 'wanted by Valencia' who are keen 'to avoid paying a fee'

Martin Braithwaite could be on his way out of Barcelona this summer, with the striker a reported target for fellow Spanish side Valencia.

The Denmark striker only joined Barca back in 2020 but could be moved on as part of a summer clear out at the Nou Camp following a disappointing season that saw them only finish third in LaLiga behind champions Atletico Madrid and bitter rivals Real Madrid.

New Valencia boss Jose Bordalas has targeted the 30-year-old as a priority signing at the club having previously tried to sign him at Getafe shortly before he moved to the Nou Camp, according to Marca.

Valencia though have been financially hamstrung in recent times and have not purchased a player since the summer of 2019. Should a move progress, the club are reportedly looking to put together a deal which would not involve a transfer fee.

Barcelona too have financial concerns and while Braithwaite is not one of their high earners, they would be keen to offload any excess wages they can in a bid to ease their hefty wage bill.

Braithwaite arrived as a controversial signing at the Nou Camp for £15m in February 2020 just outside the transfer window, as part of Barca's appeal to LaLiga to sign an emergency player following an injury to striker Ousmane Dembele.

Since then he has struck eight goals in 53 games for the Catalan outfit, where he has three years remaining on his current deal.

Valencia though have yet to open talks with Barcelona over a move for Braithwaite, and could face competition given the striker's current form at Euro 2020.

The 30-year-old has played in all four of Denmark's games at the European Championship, scoring once as the Danes prepare for a quarter-final against the Czech Republic on Saturday where the winner will face either England or Ukraine in a Wembley semi-final.
