Cadiz players left the pitch in tears on Friday after a fan protest forced their 2-0 defeat by Real Betis into an early end.

Furious with the club's poor run of results, Cadiz supporters threw yellow ponchos on to the field during added time in the second half, protesting the club's staggering winless streak in LaLiga dating back to last September.

With the pitch unable to be played on, referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea brought the match to an early finish with Real Betis 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from William Jose and Pablo Fornals.

According to Diario Sport, several Cadiz players were spotted leaving the pitch with 'tears in their eyes.'

Cadiz sit 18th in the Spanish top flight, three points adrift from safety at the moment.

This season marks the club's fourth successive campaign in LaLiga, with Cadiz finishing as high as 14th in 2022-23.

As well as performing terribly in LaLiga, Cadiz also lost to fourth-tier side Arandina in the Copa del Rey in December.

Former Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino took over from sacked boss Sergio Gonzalez last month, but Cadiz have yet to score a goal during his opening three games in charge.
