On June 27th,in the third round of the FIFA World Cup group stage, Uruguay lost 0-1 to Spain. Toward the end of the match, Uruguayan player Canobbio was sent off with a straight red card for a flying tackle on Cubarsi. After the match, in an interview with Teledoce, Canobbio explained his aggressive tackle during the game.

Canobbio said: "I didn't watch the replay after the game, but I'm definitely not someone who tackles with studs showing. I made contact with him with the side of my foot. The intensity of the game was high and the pace was fast. We must reflect on our performance, go back and correct the mistakes that were made. We must stay united and move forward."

"It is really hard to speak right now, but we must continue to work hard and believe in our team. We need to clear our heads first and then properly review everything. In the first two matches against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, we dominated the game but failed to manage the key details, while our opponents capitalized on their scoring opportunities."
