Carlo Ancelotti confirms that he will call time on his career when he leaves

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed his intentions to retire from football once his stint in charge of Real Madrid ends.

The 63-year-old who has served as head coach for ten different teams across nearly 30 years in the dugout will walk away from the sport when his second stint at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking to Il Messagero, Ancelotti explained that at reigning Champions League winners he has reached the pinnacle of the sport:

'This stage at Real will end my career. After Los Blancos, I'll stop.

'Real is the top of football. It makes sense to put an end to it after this experience.' He added.

The former Everton boss joined Madrid for a second stint last year, after having also won the Champions League and the Copa del Rey during his first stint in charge between 2013 and 2015.

After rejoining Los Blancos in June 2021, Ancelotti led the team to La Liga glory, and in the process becoming the first manager to win all of Europe's top five leagues.

Ancelotti's current deal at the Champions League winners will expire in 2024, though it remains to be seen if he will extend his contract beyond that date.

Prior to making the move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Ancelotti spent 18 months in charge of Everton, leading the Meryside team to 12th and 10th-placed Premier League finishes in his two seasons at the club.

Between 1976 and 1992, Ancelotti also enjoyed a successful playing career as a midfielder, appearing for Parma, Roma, and AC Milan, winning two European Cups at the Rossoneri while amassing 26 caps for his native Italy.
