Carragher: Arsenal lacks true superstars, which makes me concerned their UCL

After Arsenal's defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup final, Liverpool legend and commentator Jamie Carragher frankly stated that he was "concerned" about Arsenal.

Arsenal does not have any real superstars and will suffer in the Champions League. When they are in poor form like in the League Cup final, no one can stand up. Carragher also urged Arteta to replace Gyokeres in the summer.

Arsenal missed the opportunity to compete for their first trophy of the season, losing 0-2 to Premier League title rivals Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. The Gunners had hoped to win their first major trophy since 2020 while keeping alive their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple. But after a stalemate in the first half, Arsenal were completely suppressed in the second half, with Nico O'Reilly's quickfire double helping Guardiola win his fifth League Cup title.

Despite the setbacks, Arsenal are still hoping for huge success this season, as they are vying for their first Premier League title in 22 years and their first Champions League trophy in team history.

Carragher does not think that Manchester City's League Cup win will affect the Premier League title race, but he said that Arsenal's lack of "top attacking players" makes him "worried."

Only Gyokeres has scored in double figures for Arsenal this season, but Carragher still has doubts about the Swedish striker, believing that the club should replace him in the summer.

"I don't think it will affect the league title race because Arsenal have a very big lead." The Liverpool legend and former England international said on "The Overlap" program.

"But my view of Arsenal now is - actually every team in the Premier League probably has this problem - they don't have enough top stars."

"Arsenal are the best performing team in the league, and their record is also very good, but when I look at their attacking line, I can only say it's okay.

The team does not have any real superstars, and when you are in bad shape like in the final, you need such players to stand up."

"I think Arsenal lack enough decisive players in attack, which makes me a little worried in the Champions League.

Two years ago, I thought Saka and Odegaard could really grow into players like Salah and De Bruyne, and they were close at the time."

"Arsenal are likely to win the league title, but even so, I don't think their attacking players will think they have had a perfect season, and the whole thing has not really been polished in place."

When Arsenal legend Ian Wright talked about Gyokeres' performance against Manchester City, Carragher added: "They still need to buy a center forward."

Before this summer's transfer window, Arsenal have been rumored to be interested in Alvarez, and the former Manchester City forward has recently stated that he may leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season. When asked whether he would stay at Atletico next season, Alvarez said earlier this month: "I don't know, maybe, maybe not. I am very happy now and just focus on the present."

And his current coach Diego Simeone hopes that Alvarez can "play for many years" after the team eliminated Tottenham in the Champions League.

"In my opinion, he is very happy, he is constantly scoring goals. Looking at the teams he has played for, River Plate, Manchester City, Atletico Madrid is the team where he has scored the most goals. He is focused, in positive condition, and his number of goals isn't much different from last season. I hope that he can play for Atletico for many years, and we can continue to build a team that top players are willing to stay with."

Alvarez has won two Premier League titles with Manchester City and has scored 46 goals in 100 appearances for Atletico Madrid.

Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon for £64 million last summer, scoring 16 goals in 42 games.
