Recently, there have been a lot of rumors about Barcelona's interest in Rodri, and Carragher also shared his thoughts in an interview with Sky Sports, stating that Manchester City should not sell Rodri for £40 million to £50 million.
Carragher said: "£40 million to £50 million? If you are Manchester City, what's the point of selling him at that price? You might as well keep him for another year. He is absolutely top-tier in his position in the Premier League, perhaps even the best. Look at his performance in the World Cup; it feels like he's back to his best."
"I think he and Bernardo Silva played exceptionally well in the second half of the season, almost leading Manchester City to the title. So, if I were the Manchester City manager, I would keep Rodri. Unless there's a very special reason, I wouldn't want to lose arguably the best midfielder in world football."
"I think even if they have many midfielders, without Rodri, it would be difficult for them to win the Premier League title. He is the best, and although they signed Elliott Anderson, I believe Elliott Anderson will learn a lot from Rodri."
"For me, I would see them as a pair. Elliott Anderson could almost replace Bernardo Silva, who has already moved to Real Madrid. So, I think that would be a big void, hard to fill."
"When Liverpool won the league under Slot, Rodri was injured early in that season, which was good for Liverpool but bad for Manchester City. So if I were Manchester City, I would keep him and let him leave on a free transfer."
"Manchester City originally bought him for £60 million. If they can now recoup £40 million, what can they do with that money? Not much, actually. So, if it were me, I'd rather keep him."

this is the disadvantage of 5yrs contract for clus.. before you know it players are already in the 3rd or 4th year and now have power over their future..take Enzo for instance that Chelsea signed for up to 7 yrs contract, if he was in the last year of his contract imagine the loss for Chelsea..he can do all he like but if Chelsea says "we are not renewing your contract in the next 3yrs" he will still be forced to play...but for carragher, that's the worst financial advice I have heard..get 40-50m now or let him leave for free in a year time and you choose the latter

Why will you advise a club to retain a player who has indicated his desire to leave. He's been with city for close to 8 years and felt it's time for a new environment, challenge and opportunity. Carragher should know that keeping a player that has communicated his desire to leave is tantamount to keeping an unhappy person and the collateral damage is palpable.
