Spanish legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas has announced that he will stand for President of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol in 2020, with the current President Rubiales facing stiff competition, according to SER Radio.
Casillas' announcement of his candidacy, which was leaked on January 22nd, confirms what Casillas had previously said.
In fact, since last December, there have been rumors that Rubiales would face a challenge, that he would be upset about his opponent in the election. Casillas has called all of his teammates who won the 2010 World Cup together, some of whom have met him and Casillas wants their support.
Casillas's candidacy also pits him against Rubiales, whose relationship has cooled in recent weeks.
