Celta Vigo 1-1 Lyon: Endrick snatches deserved draw late on

Ten-man Celta Vigo failed to hold on for a win in their Europa League last-16 first leg against Lyon as Endrick secured a 1-1 draw for the Ligue 1 side.

The Real Madrid loanee equalised for Lyon in the 87th minute following a mistake from Celta Vigo goalkeeper Ionut Radu, who made key saves after Borja Iglesias was sent off for the home side at Estadio Abanca-Balaidos.

Lyon started on the front foot in Spain, with Corentin Tolisso heading over from Endrick's floated cross before Noah Nartey dragged wide of the target from Stevee Kango's cutback in the 10th minute.

Celta then took the lead against the run of play shortly before the half-hour mark, with Javi Rueda converting from Williot Swedberg's low centre after Iago Aspas started a swift counter-attack.

Radu was then called into action on either side of half-time, first saving a close-range header from Endrick before expertly tipping Roman Yaremchuk's effort around the post, all while Iglesias received a second yellow card for catching Clinton Mata in the face.

Lyon did not give up in the search for an equaliser and found it with three minutes to go as Endrick's curling effort from the edge of the box snuck underneath the body of Radu and crept over the line.

Elsewhere, Robbie Keane's Ferencvaros defeated Braga 2-0 in their last-16 first leg, with Lenny Joseph assisting Gabi Kanichowsky's opener before scoring himself in the second half.

Genk also made the most of their home advantage in the first leg, defeating Freiburg 1-0 courtesy of Zakaria El Ouahdi's first-half strike.

Data Debrief: Endrick stars with resilient performance

The expected goals tally perhaps does not tell the full story of the match, with Celta producing 0.97 xG from just five shots to Lyon's 0.8 from 20 attempts, six of which were on target.

Radu made five saves for the hosts and was perhaps unlucky with how Endrick's goal went in, as the goalkeeper saw the ball quite late when attempting his save.

Endrick, however, deserved a goal for his efforts. He registered a match-high seven shots and five touches in the opposition box, while also creating the joint-most chances (four – along with Nartey).
