Chelsea dealt major Levi Colwill transfer curveball as Tottenham hijack ambitious Liverpool plan

Levi Colwill faces an increasingly uncertain future at Chelsea and the defender will be seeking assurances from Mauricio Pochettino over game time

"Of course Levi I know. We're waiting for them to be in the team. I think they will fly to America and join us," Pochettino added, before explaining how he'll approach the meeting with Colwill.

"First of all, I need to understand him. I need to hear what he has in his mind. What he expects. And then, of course, for him to listen to what I expect from him."

football.london understand that the Reds have made several enquiries about Colwill in the last couple of weeks, with Jurgen Klopp in the market for a new centre-half. As for Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou has now also joined the defender's growing list of admirers, according to the Evening Standard.

The report states that Spurs have held talks with Wolfsburg for Micky Van de Ven, who is viewed as the north Londoners' primary target. However, there are fears that Liverpool could hijack a move for the 22-year-old defender if they can't get their hands on Colwill.

The Evening Standard add that Manchester City could also turn their attention to the Cobham graduate, but only if a move for Josko Gvardiol fails to materialise. Chelsea were heavily linked with the RB Leipzig defender during Thomas Tuchel's reign at Stamford Bridge but, following Colwill's meteoric rise to superstardom, talk of a switch has fizzled out.

Speaking to Croatian TV show Danas in January, Gvardiol revealed that the Blues were desperate to secure his signature last summer. As quoted by Goal, he said: "They [Chelsea] did not give up. But it was agreed that we would go for the winter.

"Winter has come, so we need to see what and how to proceed, but it's okay, there's still plenty of time, we'll see. Since I was a child, I always gravitated towards the English league.

"We all know what kind of league it is. I don't know if I'm mature enough and ready for that league. We will see, when I feel that this is the moment, that I have crossed a certain level and reached the border in Germany, then I will look further."
