City Fans make fun of Dias' desperate defending to stop a cross against Leeds

Fans on social media have mocked Ruben Dias' bizarre bit of defending after the Portuguese star was seen 'glitching out' in Manchester City's thumping 7-0 win over Leeds on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola's men completely tore apart the Yorkshire side, with Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne (twice), Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Nathan Ake all getting their names on the scoresheet in the dominant win.

Dias started the game as was once again solid at the back before he was brought off just after the hour-mark.

However, while the Portuguese defender helped his side keep a clean sheet, an odd sequence of defending from Dias has started to do the rounds on social media.

In the clip Leeds are on the attack and are trying to pull a goal back on the stroke of half-time, with Marcelo Bielsa's side already 3-0 down.

As the ball makes its way to the touchline just left of Ederson's goal, Dias can be seen trying everything in his power in order to stop any sort of Junior Firpo cross from reaching an opponent.

Having blocked the initial cross, the ball falls straight to Jack Harrison, who decides to try his luck against Dias and darts to the byline again.

Trying to recover, Dias sticks out a leg to tackle Harrison, but misses, and then tries to block any attempted cross by kicking both his legs back behind him before doing a full-on push-up.

While he doesn't stop the cross from entering the box, City are able to clear and see out the rest of the first half.

But eagle-eyed fans noticed the desperate bit of defending and have taken to Twitter to mock the PFA Player of the Year.

One fan compared the bit of defending to Phil Jones' iconic lunge, who dove to the floor and headed the ball away in a clip that has gone down in football folklore.

They tweeted: 'Ruben Dias channelling his inner Phil Jones impression' followed by a laughing and clapping hands emoji.

Other fan compared it to one of the glitches in the popular football game series FIFA, while one fan said it was like he was 'moving in the Matrix'.

City's dominant win even saw another user say that it was so easy for Guardiola's side that 'Dias was doing burpees mid game'.

The win puts City four points clear at the top of the Premier League table and Guardiola was very impressed with how his side played.

'Yeah, we played a really good game,' Guardiola told the club's official website.

'We dropped five points against Leeds last season with the same guys we had today except Jack [Grealish].

'We started in a good rhythm and our central defenders made good build-up. We were patient with the ball and the quality of the players did the rest.

'It was a good game. The vibe at the stadium was phenomenal. It was sold out today and when this happens the players feel it. Thanks so much to them (the fans). It was a pleasure.'
