23:30 CET - Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup as the revamped tournament gets underway overnight, with Inter Miami coming up against Al Ahly at 02:00 CET.

It promises to be a fascinating opener in Miami, as both sides look to lay down an early marker in what should be an exciting inaugural group stage across a dozen American venues.

Javier Mascherano - who twice won the Club World Cup as a Barcelona player in 2012 and 2016 - leads Inter Miami in their first appearance in the tournament after winning the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield.

They'll be looking to talisman Lionel Messi for inspiration, with the legendary Argentinian scoring five goals in as many Club World Cup games during his career - including three goals in finals.

As for Egyptian giants Al Ahly, they're making their 11th appearance in the competition, having qualified for this latest edition via three CAF Champions League triumphs since 2020/21.

While Jose Riveiro's side might not possess the same star power as many of the heavy-hitters in the tournament, a six-game run of domestic victories suggests they should be able to mix it with the elite.
