Courtois has stated that his teammate Mbappé deserves to win the Ballon d'Or because "no one is better than him individually," though he conceded that Yamal has an advantage with the titles won with Barcelona and Spain.
According to AS, Courtois said in an interview with DAZN: "I think Mbappé deserves the award, but people have their own logic when they vote."
With just days to go until the Ballon d'Or ceremony next Monday in London, the Belgian goalkeeper raised a question: should the award recognize individual performance or collective achievement?
"Do we choose someone who won titles, or someone who was better than everyone else all season, even if he didn't win anything? The first person who comes to mind is Mbappé. I think individually, no one is better than Mbappé, but unfortunately, we didn't win anything collectively."
"For me, Yamal had a slightly weaker World Cup, but he won the World Cup, LaLiga with Barcelona, and had a good year."
The 34-year-old Real Madrid goalkeeper also questioned the voting criteria for the award, mentioning that in 2024 he had hoped for Vinícius or Carvajal to win, but Spanish midfielder Rodri ultimately received it.
"I don't think that was his best year. Although he won the Euros with Spain. The year before, when Manchester City won the Champions League, I thought he deserved the award."
Courtois added: "Sometimes it's hard to know how to vote for the Ballon d'Or."

I agree Mbappe had a better season than anyone individually, Real Madrid was not good as a team but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mpappe win the ballon dor, his numbers despite Real Madrid’s struggles as a team were on point.
