Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

The Premier League side are yet to submit a formal offer for Gallagher, 25, but are interested in bringing him back to Selhurst Park.

Atletico, meanwhile, would favour a permanent deal over a loan move should the interest advance. The Spanish side believe he is also attracting interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.

Gallagher, 25, spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Palace from Chelsea, scoring eight goals in 34 league appearances and being named the club’s player of the season.

The midfielder joined Atletico in a €42million (£36.4m; $49.2m) move last summer.

Gallagher signed a five-year deal upon moving to Atletico which runs through to 2029. He played 50 times during his debut season in Spain, but was in and out of the starting lineup during the second half of the campaign, with 13 of his 32 La Liga appearances coming from the bench.

The England international started Atletico’s first match of the new season but was substituted at half-time, before then coming on in the second half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Elche.

Palace, meanwhile, have started Will Hughes alongside Adam Wharton in central midfield during their two Premier League games of the 2025-26 season, after Daichi Kamada was injured in the Community Shield. Kamada has since returned to training. Oliver Glasner also has Jefferson Lerma available in the position, alongside the injured Cheick Doucoure.

Gallagher was selected by Thomas Tuchel for England’s fixtures against Andorra and Senegal in June. Tuchel will name his England squad for September’s World Cup qualifiers on Friday.

Palace have drawn their opening league games against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest and face Norwegian side Fredrikstad on Thursday in the second leg of their Conference League play-off.
