Having left an indelible mark on football, particularly with how the position of right-back is seen, Dani Alves will always have a connection with Barcelona, yet the Brazilian has admitted that the club has lost their identity, instead becoming a commercial team.
The Josep Maria Bartomeu era is over, yet the consequences of it will be felt for years to come, and one casualty of that regime was actually Alves who found it impossible to continue at the club, feeling disrespected during the process of renewing his deal.
"Before, Barcelona had an identity. They've lost that," Alves explained in an interview with RAC1. What makes Barcelona different is their style and their values; in life you shouldn't try to be what you are not.
"Barcelona are now trying to be a commercial team, instead of being a team with their own personality." When pressed further on what he meant by this, the former Sevilla defender outlined the transfer policy in recent years and how it has damaged what the Blaugrana should stand for.
"In the past the club signed the players they needed and that fit into the philosophy of the club," he added. Now, they have signed a lot of people without the concept or identity of Barcelona, many expensive players, but ones who don't defend the identity of the club. The management have turned to 'prostituting'. Barcelona used to defend their philosophy, but they no longer have it."
With Alves' departure from the Camp Nou being rancorous to say the least, the player has revealed just what led him to Juventus. I think that Bartomeu was influenced by his surroundings, by those around him," he detailed.
"They wanted to let me go without even talking to me. I love that club, I wasn't going to sign for anyone else, it seemed disrespectful towards me, of course, when there was a sanction they came to talk to me."

Well like dani said, barca did make a mistake of signing players that don’t adapt the style of barca.

Barça made some unholy deal that's making us pay with karma. that Malcom deal was dirty and showed so much unsportsmanlike behaviour, i hope it didn't ruin the boy's confidence. Griezman was never needed, that's what happens when all of a sudden you are more concerned about jersey sales than actually spending wisely and building an effective team post Messi. then we're seeing talents that has proven themselves that was let go prematurely (Dani, Pedro) then there are some that clings to staying XI leaving promising talents either leaving cheap or not getting a chance at all. TOTAL MISMANAGEMENT!!!

Dani, we love you and what you did for us will always be remembered and what the club did to you was extremely wrong. We suffered more because of that than you did. You have every right to be angry with the club and slam them. but please not now. I appeal to the club legends to please STFU for a while, don't put extra pressure on the team. Team is already going through a tough time, once they recover say whatever you want.
