Dani Alves becomes evangelical pastor: "Football cannot save anyone"

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that after being acquitted on appeal following sexual assault charges and serving 14 months in prison, the former Juventus player has become the latest in a string of athletes who found faith later in life. Others include Sergio Goycochea and Diego Maradona.

Many are called, but few are chosen. Among them are some reformed former players who found faith when their playing days ended. D. Alves became an evangelical pastor. After being acquitted on appeal following sexual assault charges and serving 14 months in prison, the Brazilian, who played for Barcelona, Juventus, and PSG, has been spreading the word of God in Argentina. He said: "I am here to preach Christ to the Argentine people." He also told young people listening to him: "True freedom comes from being freed from our sins." He emphasized: "Even if a country is obsessed with football, it should change direction: football cannot save anyone."
