Devoted! Antony lost it when interviewed as he'll miss derby

Following Betis' 2-1 victory over Utrecht in the Europa League, an emotional Antony broke down in tears during his post-match interview. His tears stemmed from the rejection of his appeal against a red card, which means he will now miss Sunday's city derby against Sevilla.

Antony was sent off with a red card in the last minute of last week's match against Girona. During that game, while attempting a bicycle kick clearance inside the penalty area, he accidentally kicked a Girona player in the face and was immediately sent off.

The referee on duty initially only showed a yellow card, but after VAR recommended reviewing the replay, it was upgraded to a red card. Betis' initial appeal against Antony's three-game suspension has been rejected, and the club has reportedly filed a further appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). 

Antony was extremely frustrated about not being able to participate in the Derby and even shed tears during an interview. Antony said, "It's really hard for me because that red card was completely without any malice. But this week has been really tough."

"I know there are still many games left in the season, but I am very aware of the importance of this derby. I'm angry and sad because I really hoped to play on Sunday, but I can only be there for my teammates. For me, it's the most important game of the year, and not being able to play it is really painful. This week has been so tough."

"This red card has affected me because the next game is so important. I had originally anticipated playing in the away derby, but now I will accompany the team, give them strength, and secure these three points."
