According to Mundo Deportivo, Jan Diomande's impressive performance at the World Cup has caught Real Madrid's attention.
Jan Diomande has been one of the surprises of this World Cup. As a key player for Côte d'Ivoire, his outstanding attacking prowess has garnered significant attention from major European clubs. Liverpool has been tracking him closely, while Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is also keen to sign him. Though not a prolific scorer with 13 goals in 36 appearances, Diomande is a forward capable of making an impact, having also provided 10 assists.
Diomande's key attributes include pace, direct running, strong dribbling ability, and remarkable potential. At just 19 years old, he has significant room for development. His path to success has not been straightforward—he was rejected by multiple elite clubs. He had trials at Bournemouth, Chelsea, Rangers, Olympiacos, and Crystal Palace, but none signed him despite his performances impressing established players like Michael Olise at the time.
In a moving letter to his late sister, Diomande recalled that Olise once told him: "Hey kid, you're really good." His sister later passed away in Côte d'Ivoire under tragic circumstances.
Diomande wrote in the letter: "Even the lower-tier teams didn't want me. I don't even know why. They never gave me a reason. Adults arranged everything. They took me all over Europe, and everyone kept saying no. My visa expired. My dream was over. They sent me back to Africa, and we cried together. You were the one who never stopped believing in me. A few weeks later, I signed with Leganés, and we shed different tears."
Reflecting on that difficult period, Diomande added: "That was just weeks after my debut for Leganés. Who makes their debut against Real Madrid at 18? It's incredible. It was a dream." Shortly after, he received the devastating news of his sister's death.
Diomande made the most of his opportunity at Leganés, joining RB Leipzig for €20 million just six months later. His contract with the German club runs until 2030, and his current market value stands at €90 million—a €70 million increase from a year ago.
However, RB Leipzig has set Diomande's asking price at €100 million and will not consider lower offers. While Florentino Pérez's primary target remains Michael Olise, if Bayern Munich refuses to negotiate, Diomande's emergence could reshape Real Madrid's transfer strategy.
