According to Sport, Elche nearly drew with Real Madrid in their La Liga match. Carlos Espí scored in stoppage time to make it 2-3, after Elche had erased a two-goal deficit in the second half during the 6th round of La Liga. The Elche club criticized the performances of Mbappé and Vinícius on social media following the match.
On Wednesday, Elche posted two pictures of the players confronting each other on social media with the caption "Fair Play" and two emojis. Fair Play is one of the three criteria for Ballon d'Or voting. Mbappé is among the main contenders for the award. Recently, the Frenchman has publicly stated that he deserves this individual award.
Elche also targeted Vinícius. In the second half, the Real Madrid player walked towards the stands at Estadio Martínez Valero. Elche fans mocked him with chants of "Viní Jr., beach Ballon d'Or," and the Brazilian responded immediately. Broadcast footage showed him retorting: "Again, again, again... Be careful..."
