Atletico Madrid earned a 2-1 victory over Espanyol on Sunday afternoon, coming from a goal down to clinch the three points with a 99th minute Thomas Lemar goal. After Raul de Tomas put the Catalan side ahead in the first half, Yannick Carrasco and Lemar's late strikes gave the defending champions their third win of the campaign.
Diego Simeone had set his side up in a very attacking formation, starting Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and Angel Correa.
Yet the best chances of the first half were for Espanyol, with Raul de Tomas netting the newly promoted side's first goal of the season with a perfectly placed header at a corner kick just before the break.
Atletico thought they'd equalised shortly after the restart, but an offside Luis Suarez was deemed to have interfered with play as a cross was put in, even though he hadn't touched the ball before it reached substitute Lemar to finish.
That saw Espanyol keep their one-goal advantage, but Atletico went in search of goals and found two of them late on. First, Carrasco fired into the bottom corner in a crowded penalty area, before the Belgian set up Lemar for a strike that did count in the penultimate minute of the 10 added on.
