Espanyol continued their winning start at home by coming out on top 3-1 against Villarreal in LaLiga Santander on Sunday with Hernan Perez, Darder and Piatti getting the goals.
The winning margin could have been broader with Espanyol pushing from the start and a VAR decision deciding that defender Victor Ruiz did not bring down Borja Iglesias.
It did not take long though for Espanyol to go ahead with Borja putting the ball on a plate for Hernan Perez, a surprise in the starting lineup, to slot home.
Espanyol looked comfortable against a Villarreal midfield that offered little resistence and the fact that the scoreline remained as it was for so long was more than anything down to the poor finishing of Borja, which was the only part of his game that was letting him down.
Still the visitors were level at half time with Ekambi netting and the first goal from the opposition this season at Cornella.
Villarreal improved in the second half but it was Darder that put Espanyol back in front and Piatti wrapped up the scoring in injury time.
