Europa League group stage draw info as West Ham and Reds to learn opponents

A number of clubs will embark on their Europa League journey this season looking to go the distance and qualify for the Champions League

Clubs who missed out on a place in UEFA's premier club competition, the Champions League, will learn their fate in the Europa League group stage draw this week.

Some of Europe's biggest teams will compete in the competition this season, with the line-up one of the most exciting in recent years. Liverpool, West Ham and Brighton will represent England, with sides such as Villarreal, Marseille, Leverkusen and Roma making-up the group stage.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming group stage...

The 2023/24 Europa League group stage draw will take place on Friday, September 1, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. The draw will take place at 12pm and will be streamed on UEFA.com.

There will be 32 teams in the draw, all split into four seeding pots based on their club coefficient rankings. The pots will be confirmed by UEFA on the morning of the draw, with a number of places still up for grabs via this week's play-off rounds.

Pot 1 will feature Europa Conference League winners West Ham. Brighton, who are competing in Europe for the first time in their history, will be placed in either pot two or three.

No club can draw a team from their own association. For example, Liverpool could not be drawn in the same group as West Ham or Brighton.

Pot 1: West Ham, Liverpool, AS Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, Villarreal, Atalanta

Pot 1 or 2: Sporting CP, Rennes

Pot 2: Real Betis

Pot 2 or 3: Brighton, Marseille

Pot 2, 3 or 4: Freiburg

Pot 3 or 4: Sturm Graz, Toulouse

Pot 4: FC TSK, Servette

* There are 14 places left to be decided. The four losers of the Champions League play-off round (Champions Path) and two losers of the Champions League play-off round (League Path) will drop down to the competition. There is also 10 play-off round winners still to be decided on Thursday, August 31.
