FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta slams Kylian Mbappé

A bitter Sunday night for Real Madrid ended with defeat and controversy, as FC Barcelona beat their rivals 3-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final. Beyond the result, attention quickly shifted to Kylian Mbappé, who reportedly asked his teammates not to form the traditional pasillo, the guard of honor for the champions, after the final whistle.

The gesture sparked strong reactions across Spain. While some Real Madrid supporters defended the French striker, many Barcelona fans and neutral observers saw it as a lack of sportsmanship. The incident did not go unnoticed by Barça president Joan Laporta, who openly expressed his disapproval in an interview with RAC1.

“What Mbappé did surprised me. In victory as in defeat, you have to be generous and respectful. It’s sport; you have to behave normally,” Laporta said. He added that frustration may explain the reaction but insisted that Barcelona showed respect to their opponents, subtly reaffirming his club’s superiority after another title win over Real Madrid.
