According to COPE, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez announced that he would reveal the team's first major signing for next season on June 4.
The Real Madrid presidential election will be held on June 7, with the campaign entering its final stages. The incumbent president and candidate, Florentino Pérez, announced in an exclusive interview with El Español that the first signing for the new season would be revealed this week. For the first time since 2006, Real Madrid is holding a club presidential election, with Florentino Pérez facing Enrique Riquelme in the vote.
Florentino Pérez stated: "Of course. This Thursday, I will announce Real Madrid's first major signing for next season. Everyone knows what my sporting plan is: to have the best players and continue winning."
According to transfer journalist Romano, this official announcement could be related to Internazionale right-back Dumfries. Romano stated that a "closed agreement" has been reached between the player and Real Madrid, provided that Florentino Pérez is re-elected president. Contract details are reportedly finalized and ready for signing.
This deal will be completed by paying a €20 million release clause to Internazionale. According to the same source, Dumfries rejected interest from other teams such as Liverpool, as he explicitly prefers to join Real Madrid. This move is also part of a plan that includes bringing in Mourinho as head coach.
In the interview with El Español, Florentino Pérez emphasized that his primary goal is to protect the club's ownership. He stated: "I want the members to be the owners of this economic asset." He proposed to directly transfer the club's value, estimated by Forbes at approximately €10 million, to the members. This measure will be put to a popular vote, with the aim of "strengthening the connection between members and the club" beyond emotional ties.
Florentino Pérez explained that this initiative also guards against external interference, such as what he described as La Liga's attempt to push for amendments to the Sports Law. He said: "If I hadn't found out, La Liga would have achieved its goal, and the members would no longer be the full owners of the club." Therefore, he reiterated his commitment: "Only with me will Real Madrid always belong to its members."
Florentino Pérez sharply criticized rival Enrique Riquelme, linking him to "Real Madrid's darkest period," referring to Ramón Calderón's presidency from 2006 to 2009. He stated: "All the bad guys have come together: Calderón's people, Tebas's people, the Federation's people... They want to appropriate the club for their own private interests."
Florentino Pérez urged members to vote actively on June 7. He stated: "I encourage members to vote because we are betting on Real Madrid." He insisted that the opposing candidate's team would threaten the club's stability and ownership. He concluded: "These people running for office represent Real Madrid's darkest period, when they packed people into the general assembly to vote as if they were members."
Speaking about his electoral opponent, Florentino Pérez also added: "Agents called me and said Riquelme spoke to players and told them: 'Don't say no.' I don't believe anything he says. One of the signings he mentioned was Rodri, but apparently, he hasn't finalized it."
