In 2014 World Cup quarter-final, Brazil defeated Colombia 2-1. 22-year-old James Rodriguez burst into tears after the match. David Luiz, then a Chelsea player, comforted James as the rest of his teammates celebrated making it through to the semi-finals.
Luis was hailed all over the world for his sporting attitude, and the Brazilian explained that he knew how hard James and Colombia had worked to reach the quarter-final, and that's why he comforted him.
"With James Rodriguez, it was just totally spontaneous.
"Everyone was seeing the World Cup that he was having.
"At the moment where everyone was swapping shirts, I saw him crying, and I understood how hard Colombia had worked to be there.
"He'd played a great World Cup, with a great generation of Colombian players, and I felt sad for him at that moment.
"What I've learned in life is that you can't always win, especially in sport, but you can be a true champion for everything you did to get there."
James Rodriguez was the top-scorer with six goals in that campaign. Then, on July 22, 2014, Real Madrid signed the Colombian from Monaco with a transfer fee of €75m.
