Arsenal stars all smiles in Singapore despite Emery's double sessions

Arsenal players did not appear fazed by double sessions in the Singapore heat on Wednesday as Unai Emery continued his relentless pre-season schedule.

There were plenty of smiles on show from the club's star men, despite being put through their paces not once, but twice in a single day.

Arsenal's players started outside on the training pitches at the Singapore American School, before heading inside to work on their strength and conditioning.

Mesut Ozil was front and centre of the session as he turned his attentions to club football after the recent stresses of his fall-out with the Germany national team.

Ozil quit his country's national team in explosive fashion on Sunday  following the fallout of his pre-World Cup meeting with President Erdogan of Turkey.

The German FA, the DFB, immediately criticised Ozil for meeting Erdogan, who has been accused of human rights abuses. Politicians in Germany also questioned Ozil's loyalty to the national cause.

In a string of tweets on Sunday, Ozil cited the 'racism and disrespect' that he believes he has faced due to his Turkish roots, and announced he would no longer feature for Die Mannschaft.

He was all smiles on Wednesday though, as he continues to get himself ready for the new season under Emery at Arsenal.

A few of the Gunners squad look considerably stronger than last season, and were back on the weights again with a gym session after the first round of training.

Hector Bellerin, Petr Cech and Calum Chambers were just three of the players doing pull-ups and the bench press, while Mohamed Elneny was pictured working on his balance.

At one point, though, Ozil tried his hardest to put his team-mate off his routine, jokingly throwing an exercise ball at him.

Out on the pitches in Singapore, there was also some team bonding going on in one particular training drill. The players were made to link arms before passing the ball around the group.

All the double sessions are in preparation for the new season, and the players will have their first bit of match action in Asia on Thursday.

They face Atletico Madrid in their opening fixture, before PSG concludes the tour on Saturday.

There are then further games in Dublin and Stockholm against Chelsea and Lazio respectively, before attention turns to the opening day of the season and reigning champions Manchester City.
