Next weekend Racing Santander travel to Amorebieta as they look to maintain their position at the top of Group II in the Segunda Bin the hope of returning to their former glories, with it being just a decade since Racing played the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
In the last edition of the UEFA Cup in 2008/09, before it changed to the Europa League, Racing were in a five-team group with PSG, City, Schalke and FC Twente.
After losing 1-0 in the Netherlands to Twente, followed by a 1-1 draw at El Sardinero against Schalke, 3,500 Racing fans travelled to Paris on 27 November, 2008, so that they did not miss this historic fixture.
PSG may not have had the superstars of today with the only big names being Claude Makelele and Mateja Kezman - the Qatari money was three years away at this point - but the French side were able to take a 2-0 lead in the game, before Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz's side were able to claw back and secure a 2-2 draw.
Three weeks later, the Robinho-led City travelled to Santander and this came just a few months after the club had been bought by an investor group from the United Arab Emirates. Racing were able to beat City 3-1 in a team that featured Pablo Zabaleta, Elano and Kaspar Schmeichel, along with the former Real Madrid winger.
Ultimately Racing were eliminated by a single goal as PSG went through to the knockout rounds after scoring one more in the group stages; but 10 years on, there is the hope that the club can return to this level of football, though first they must go to Amorebieta.

If I remember correctly they did not eliminate us because of a goal, they eliminated us by a match between the French and the Dutch to tie their game. We got City 3-0 and in the last minutes, when it was clear that we were not going to pass, we relaxed and the English goal came

That match of Manchester City is from the 2008-09 season, not the 98-99 as you have placed at the bottom of the video. Reviewing things before publishing them does not cost much.

If the Racing Santander has more history than Manchester City or PSG is said and nothing happens.

The difference. PSG was bought by a real billionaire and Racing a small-time swindler ...

The Psg and the City have no merit. If a sheikh invests 3000 million in the Alcoyano also puts it in Champions ...

I liked this group stage more than the infumable now, I had more emotion. Go small group it was the Racing, I remember that it was very angry to be eliminated after tying in Paris and the City bath.

I always said here the City and PSG are historically two mediocre teams that have grown on a checkbook but only nationally, but being truly historical is something that is not bought with money and I know that Racing will one day come back to the first is where you should be because it's your site, Always Racing !!!

Very good team had that Racing. Toño had finished second in Zamora last season just behind Iker Casillas. The best Ezequiel Garay of his career that ended up signing for Madrid. César Navas who was almost 10 years in Russia winning titles. Marcano who is now in Rome. Pedro Munitis who also signed for Madrid and was in the SuperDepor. Gonzalo Colsa who was practically the star of the team. Luccin and Lacen, who competed for a position, had very long races in first. Óscar Serrano and Jonathan Pereira were two bullets in a band. And coach Juan Ramón López Muñiz, who at that time promised a lot even though he has stayed in a promotion specialist. That team just lacked a good striker to have gone further. Shortly after, the foreign investor arrived, who took everything

it's only been 10 years since City and PSG have 100,000 times more budget than Racing
