Nottingham Forest assistant Rui Barbosa needed six stitches after getting a little too carried away celebrating his team's first goal of the season on Sunday.

Forest kicked off their campaign in style with a convincing 3-1 win over Brentford at the City Ground.

It took the home side just five minutes to break the deadlock, striker Chris Wood pouncing on a loose ball in the area.

The early goal drew a big reaction from the dugout and Barbosa banged his head during the celebrations.

He was left with a big cut and the club's medical staff were quickly on hand to tend to the wound.

'He has six stitches! It was a nasty one. A bad one. He was dizzy,' manager Nuno Espirito Santo said after the game when asked abut the incident.

Dan Ndoye doubled Forest's lead with a fine header before Wood got his second with a clinical finish moments before half-time.

Igor Thiago pulled one back from the penalty spot but it proved to be a mere consolation.

'I am delighted,' Santo added. 'The way we started the game was amazing. We played good, we dominated, we controlled.

'The goal in the first five minutes settled the team and the energy of the stadium.

'With the exception of a moment before the third goal, we did not allow Brentford too many things.'
