Andy Gray has pointed the finger at the "soft" penalties won by Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as the Harry Kane 'dive' storm rumbles on.
Speaking on beIN Sports, former Everton forward Gray has defended the England man and believes Liverpool's Salah was given several penalties last season for far less clear offences.
"Front men do it all the time," he said. "You deliberately put your body between the defender and the ball and say to him, 'if you want to touch me...'
"We have spoken about Mo Salah. Mo Salah in the last year must have had three or four penalties that were much, much softer than that.
"The idea is, Harry Kane knows what he is doing, 100%. That's why he is a top striker.
"He knows Sokratis is coming so you step across the line and say 'do you want to make a tackle?'. Most top defenders won't get involved and think no, he's running out play.
"You don't do that, which is ridiculous. I'm sorry. It's a pen, but we're not going to get a clear and obvious error when Martin Atkinson is referee.
"They overruled him last year with a red card in a League Cup tie at Wolves, and he really wasn't very happy."

It is better to judge each incident independently ,whether that particular event worth the decision or not . Don't compare incidents.

Yes He did dive a bit last year, and was rightly hammered for it in the press and from pundits. When it comes down to it that’s what strikers do..... how is that any player on the pitch would do. It’s not great, but that’s just how it is I don’t know why people are so shocked that’s the most shocking thing.

Well said, Andy Gray. I've been saying this on numerous times. Salah got a dozen very soft penalties last season. And pool's got so many favorable referees 'calls, off side, free kicks etc etc but still didn't win the league.
yeah 💯% correct..but please are we the only team that got into such situations? So what's the point? favourable referees indeed

Surely gray is busy talking. Referee did not give penalty last night when Kane was again touch on his back and fall. Well done to the referee this time.

No need to defend, the question is does it dive or not. could we count all awarded penalties before var? How many divers we have seen? difficult. now against a single player salah. haha salah himself believe in var. don't worry.i have seen many of them defending to kane, but unfairly attack mosalah, I do no.

Everton supporter is jealous coz pool is now far away from where they used to see it from. my advise to them is that football is all about competition so go ahead and compete.
