Former Everton forward Andy Gray points finger at Salah after Kane 'dive' storm

Andy Gray has pointed the finger at the "soft" penalties won by Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as the Harry Kane 'dive' storm rumbles on.

Speaking on beIN Sports, former Everton forward Gray has defended the England man and believes Liverpool's Salah was given several penalties last season for far less clear offences.

"Front men do it all the time," he said. "You deliberately put your body between the defender and the ball and say to him, 'if you want to touch me...'

"We have spoken about Mo Salah. Mo Salah in the last year must have had three or four penalties that were much, much softer than that.

"The idea is, Harry Kane knows what he is doing, 100%. That's why he is a top striker.

"He knows Sokratis is coming so you step across the line and say 'do you want to make a tackle?'. Most top defenders won't get involved and think no, he's running out play.

"You don't do that, which is ridiculous. I'm sorry. It's a pen, but we're not going to get a clear and obvious error when Martin Atkinson is referee.

"They overruled him last year with a red card in a League Cup tie at Wolves, and he really wasn't very happy."
