Former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri reveals he 'turned down Real Madrid'

Former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has revealed that he was made an offer by Real Madrid in 2018, which he chose to turn down.

Allegri is one of the Old Lady's most decorated managers, winning five consecutive Serie A championships, four Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups, as well as reaching two Champions League finals.

But despite his huge success, Juventus sacked Allegri in May 2019 and replaced him with former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

Now Allegri has admitted other clubs were interested in him, with the giants of the Spanish capital going as far as to get in touch, but his commitment to Juventus was too strong.

'When Real Madrid called me three years ago, I had promised to Juventus that I would remain. That's the only one I turned down,' Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

Unfortunately for Allegri, his loyalty to Juventus was not re-paid as he was dismissed just a year after Real's offer.

Earlier this month Allegri's friend and mentor Giovanni Galeone said that the ex-Juve boss has turned down jobs at Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid once again since leaving the Serie A champions, due to family issues.

Rumours continue to circulate that Allegri could make a sensational return to the Allianz Stadium to take over from Andrea Pirlo, who is under intense pressure as Juve have endured a poor season under his leadership.

Asked about whether he would go back, Allegri gave his support to Pirlo and suggested Juventus were in a stronger position than people think.

'It's impossible to tell (about a return to Juve), besides, Andrea Pirlo is there now and in my view he's doing well,' Allegri said.

'I don't know what Juve are missing. They are in the Coppa Italia Final, won the Supercoppa, are fighting for the top four. The Champions League is a bit of a lottery, it can turn on a sixpence.'
