Mangala announced his retirement from professional football on social media.
Mangala began his career at Standard Liège before moving through Porto, Manchester City, Valencia, Everton, and other clubs. He joined Manchester City in August 2014 for €45 million but made only 79 appearances and provided 3 assists. During his time at City, he won the 2017-18 Premier League title and two League Cups.
Mangala made his senior debut for France in August 2013, earning 8 caps for the national team, including one substitute appearance at the 2016 European Championship.
