A former PSG star has taken aim at Kylian Mbappe after Real Madrid were dumped out of the Champions League.
With their star-studded side Los Blancos were viewed as pre-tournament favourites by many and justified their billing by cruising through Manchester City in the knockout phase play-offs.
Victory over bitter rivals Atletico followed in the round of 16 before Carlo Ancelotti's side were unceremoniously halted by Arsenal.
A comprehensive 3-0 win for the Gunners at the Emirates was followed by another poor performance by Real's standards as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night.
Mbappe had a goal ruled out early for offside at the Bernabeu but struggled to impact the game from then on before being replaced in the closing stages.
Despite Mbappe currently sitting as the club's top scorer in his debut season in Spain, former PSG winger Jerome Rothen insisted his countryman's decision to leave Les Parisiens is proving to be a mistake.
'People are talking about Kylian Mbappé,' Rothen said on RMC Radio.
'He arrived at his dream club with the ambition of winning every trophy, including the Champions League, and also of being among the best players in the world and winning the Ballon d'Or.
'Collectively and individually, he is a failure. He will not win the Ballon d'Or this year. He is a resounding failure.'
He continued: 'At the start of the season, mitigating factors were found. He could have had time to adapt, but when you're Mbappé, the adaptation time is shorter.
'He scored a lot of goals, but in the game he's catastrophic.'
Despite leaving the Parc des Princes in search of European glory, Mbappe now finds himself out of the competition while Luis Enrique's side continue to go from strength to strength.
After a dismal start to the revamped league phase, PSG recovered to secure a place in the knockout stages before dispatching Brest, Liverpool and Aston Villa to advance to the semi-finals where they will meet Arsenal later this month.

He's not a failure. By statistics, he's one of the top performers this season. More would've come from him if he was playing in his natural position. Mbappe adapted quickly to a new team and a new position, so he should be credited. The team lacks creativity this season and many players dropped form, so Mbappe shouldn't be the scapegoat for our failure. The midfield and defence are a complete mess. We need to recruit.

22 goals (#2 in La Liga) in his premier season is hardly a “resounding failure.” Someone who scored more yellow cards than goals shouldn’t throw stones. Mbappé will settle in.
