Former Premier League player Bothroyd: Arsenal should revive Alvarez pursuit in January window

Former Premier League player and England international Jay Bothroyd has stated in an interview with Football Uncensored that Arsenal should revive their pursuit of Alvarez in the January transfer window.

Bothroyd said: "I think Alvarez is a perfect fit for what Arsenal needs. He's the type of player who can receive the ball between the lines. He can turn, he can create goals himself, he can operate out wide, and of course, he can also play in behind the last defender."

He added: "The only issue is that Atletico Madrid have ruled out selling him to Barcelona."

Bothroyd also believes Arsenal should have targeted other players last summer, saying: "I wanted them to sign Isak from Newcastle. I think that would have been a perfect signing."

Bothroyd did not endorse Arsenal's acquisition of Viktor Gyökeres, continuing: "When he comes to the Premier League, physically, everyone can compete with him. I always hear people say, 'Oh, he operates between the lines, he draws defenders away,' but Arsenal doesn't need a player just for one specific skill like that."
