Emmanuel Petit told Thierry Henry to be 'more humble' when the pair played for Arsenal.
Petit believes Henry failed as manager of Monaco because he was stuck in the mindset of a player.
Henry was sacked in January by the Ligue 1 club after three months in charge and five wins in 20 matches.
Petit told Paddy Power as per the Mirror: 'Thierry was a tremendous player.
'Everyone knows what he has done on the pitch. Now he wants to be a manager and his first job at Monaco did not go well – I think he is still a player in his mind.
'You have to change the mentality – you can't keep the player's mindset if you want to be a manager.
'The way you talk to players and control training sessions is very important. Even if it's your first job, footballers will test you constantly.
'As a player, Thierry was terrific and I hope he achieves the same as a manager. But I remember saying something to him at ArsenaI.
'I told him, "Every time you score a goal, you should be more humble and try to have a connection with the fans, rather than living in your own world". He didn't like it.'
Petit also insisted that Henry is not as loved by French supporters after his infamous handball in the 2009 World Cup play-off against the Republic of Ireland.

The fact thaf you've written a novel pertaining to the Klown let's me know your knowledge level....not debating that worthless player in the Arsenal. Enjoy the season with your vision.

DeBruyne, the whole Middie of Lpool, Pogs, Eriksen, even Dyer, the lists endless.....and if you start defending him, you have no vision as well. This is not a debate nor conversation..... he is shyt and will always be. We have youth I'd rather experiment with than this waste of space.
Dier?! I rest my case... You have so much hate and it has blinded you to a point you're dogmatic to any other opinions, I'm not defending Xhaka for any sentimental reasons, Yes, Kanté, Pogba, De Bruyne are better than he is, and he can't be compared to all midfielders anyway, cuz he's a regista like Andrea Pirlo, the only difference is that one had Gattuso, Vidal, Pogba, Marchisio, Sturaro, Seedorf doing the defensive job for him and the other had to wait for this season to get a decent defensive midfielder covering him in Torreira... If Xhaka is so terrible, why was he captain at Borussia Monchengladbach and Switzerland? what do those coaches see in him? why has he played the most passes in all his seasons as an Arsenal player? Emery skinned Özil, which means he's not afraid of anyone, why give Xhaka a new contract? ask yourself, I don't need to defend him, he's got his faults alright, but if there's a player running forward and u want someone pinging the long passes, who would u rather have doing that if not Granit Xhaka?!

You can watch the breakdown of Liverpool's tactics on YouTube, and see the differences for yourself... but to think Klopp plays him over others simply because he's captain is a preposterous claim, Klopp has no regards for that!! its like saying he'd keep Karius because he's German like him

You can name the best central midfielders in English football at the moment and let's compare their stats

"Henderson understands pressing & counter pressing more than all other liverpool midfielders"... WOW only an English man would make that statement. whatever u say, i agree

Fine, Xhaka makes too many errors but there's none without them. I'm sure u haven't been watching Liverpool very much either, cuz Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita and Lallana can all play the holding role with more mobility... but Henderson benches them all cuz he understands pressing and counterpressing a lot more than they do, like Liverpool assistant coach said, "the worst thing in football is running around aimlessly" its not about mobility, Busquets is not mobile, Toni Kroos isn't that mobile... all your ideas seem to come from PES but fine, you're entitled to them!

Xhaka is the worst footballer I've seen in years. Had no vision or smarts to be a central middie. He should stick to lower levels pf playing maybe he can find his true worth. I cannot believe we still employ the bum. GET out already

On paper: yes, in Reality: he is too slow & usually puts too much pressure on d DM & defenders. Imagine how raged chelsea fans were about jorginho playing DM/Deep-lying playmaker under Sarri cos he was too slow to respond to some counter-attacks while kante would speed like a train to try to get back in time to help. The slowest Liverpool midfielder is henderson, all d midfielders bought by klop are mobile, they helped snuff out attacks & they are a big reason why Van Djik had that record last season. Thats why i would prefer Willock to Xhaka even tho he is still very green, trust me if henderson wasnt liverpool captain, klop would have sold him off to buy someone more mobile & dynamic

Xhaka is a regista tho, a deep lying playmaker and central midfielder

I'm more interested in what Petit had to say about French fans disliking Henry after the handball in the playoff. It deserves a lot more than a line at the end when we've had load of guff about Henry the failed manager which is an insignificant few months of his career.
Insignificant u say, as a manager, if u start woefully, you're not getting any opportunities anymore... you can ask Gary Neville

There are a lot of player who should take that advise.
Cracking player so good one of favourite prrmier goals is the goal he scored against Man Utd with the back to goal. That said underwhelming as a Pundit its clear as daylight he lacked the va va voom and charisma outside the pitch .... Even appointing him captain was not an inspired choice in my humble opinion he was top top player but his leadership was a great departure from the legend of Adams Vieira and co ... so naturally his managerial demise was not really a surprise for those who understand football's basic fabric and the old school notion that the great talent on the pitch doesn't always translate to great success off it ...

How many top strikers can anyone name who have gone on to become top managers? Most successful managers are midfielders or defenders.

Great players don't automatically transform into great managers. In order to lead, you have to earn the trust of your players.

Met Petit couple of years ago , he was a gentleman and had good football chat for about 10 mins .

The incident in which Henry embarrassed his young player after a press conference for failing to push in his chair spoke volumes. He may be great player, but he has work to do in terms of his man management skills. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes at Monaco.

Petit is right about it all. The French can't even talk about the Irish game in 2009 because they are embarrassed. Anyway they got knocked out in the group stage that time. Just desserts.

FACT:- Thierry won more trophies in his 9 years at Arsenal than Spurs have in their entire existence. Lol

It's the test of a true manager to work with people who are limited in ability and not get frustrated or give up on them when they don't match the levels you were capable of.
