From De Jong to Dembele: Barcelona - who will stay and who will go?

The Blaugrana hope to put together a strong team for next season but must reduce the club's massive debt

Barcelona's delicate financial situation will play a major role in the club's transfer strategy ahead of next season.

The Camp Nou team must work to reduce their giant debt of around €1.5 billion while simultaneously trying to reshape the squad to boost their chances of competing for trophies in 2022-23.

Barca need money, and lots of it - thus they will have to offload some players who are not needed and even sacrifice some key figures.

GOAL takes a look at each member of the squad and what may await them this summer.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Barca have not put the goalkeeper on the market, but if a good offer arrives, they will listen to it.

Xavi does not want him to go as he feels there is no better goalkeeper than the German, especially because of his ability with his feet.

He has had a drop in performances in recent seasons and while a sale has not been ruled out, it is not a priority.

Sergino Dest

The American full-back's situation is similar to that of Ter Stegen. If a good offer arrives, he will be sold.

Otherwise, Xavi will give him a role in the team. His recent performances have generated mixed feelings at Camp Nou.

Dest understands the positional game and improved recently, but he continues to make serious defensive mistakes.

Gerard Pique

The defender recently said that he sees himself playing one or two more years. The club will not tell him to leave and will respect his contract. He will go when he decides to.

He has been the most reliable centre-back in the squad in recent years, despite the injury that has affected him in the final stretch of the season.

Pique will stay.

Ronald Araujo

Araujo is going nowhere this year.

He has just extended his contract until 2026 and the club see him as a crucial part of their future. Not even a big offer will convince them to sell.

The Uruguayan centre-back wants to succeed at Barca and his goal is to win everything wearing the Blaugrana jersey.

Sergio Busquets

Busquets' situation is almost identical to that of Gerard Pique.

He will stay because he is still a key player at his age and because the club is not going to ask him to leave.

He is still highly respected in the dressing room and the club have no replacement for him, so he will continue to play a lot, especially as Xavi sees him as essential.

Riqui Puig

The academy graduate has hardly played in recent seasons and has not convinced any of his coaches.

Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setien, Ronald Koeman and Xavi have all been underwhelmed by Puig.

The club will look for a way to offload him and he will be willing to go as he wants to play regularly in La Liga.

If they cannot find a buyer then they will look to send him out on loan, but will renew his contract first as his current one ends in June 2023.

Ousmane Dembele

The club will not move from its current position and it will have to be the French winger who decides if he leaves or if he extends his contract.

Dembele is free to negotiate with other clubs as his contract expires at the end of June.

Barcelona's offer is a low one, but there is still some hope among club officials that he will end up staying. Xavi wants him in the team, but the board would rather he left to lighten the wage bill.

Dani Alves

The veteran full-back has told the club that he wants to stay until December because he wants to play in the World Cup.

The club have no problem granting his wish as his salary is low.

His chances of being a regular starter depend on what happens with Sergino Dest and the possible arrival of another full-back.

Memphis Depay

Depay's role in the team is under threat as Barcelona want to sign a new starting centre-forward to play alongside Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres.

The Netherlands international also has some market value and the club wants to make money by selling him.

His contract expires in 2023, so the club must consider whether to sell him or first renew his deal before putting him on the market to get more money.

Ansu Fati

Fati is the future talisman for Barcelona.

The club will not consider anything other than getting him 100 percent fit and making sure he can play as many minutes as possible.

He is completely unsellable. No offer will be accepted, however good it may be.

Adama Traore

If nothing changes, he will return to Wolves after the loan deal comes to an end.

Traore has dropped further down the pecking order over the course of his brief spell at Camp Nou.

Barca have no intention of paying the €30 million the Premier League team are demanding for him.

Martin Braithwaite

The striker is guaranteed to leave.

Barcelona do not need him and have been looking for a team for him since last summer.

There has been some interest from Italy so a move to Serie A could be on the cards this year.

Neto

The Brazilian goalkeeper wants regular playing time and Barcelona need to get him off the wage books.

He has some value in the transfer market and will surely be sold. Barcelona's second goalkeeper next season will be Inaki Pena.

Nico Gonzalez

Barcelona would rather not sell the 20-year-old midfielder just yet but are willing to listen to offers for him.

Some within the club are confident he has a future in the team, but they may sell him for a good price.

Clement Lenglet

The French defender is comfortable at Barcelona, but the club want to get rid of him.

They believe they can still get good money for the defender and will look for a new club for him.

Pedri

Pedri is untouchable like no one else at the club. Barca want him to be the star of the midfield for the next decade and will not sell him at any price.

Luuk de Jong

The striker will return to Sevilla after his loan spell ends.

The Camp Nou side are satisfied with the performance of the Netherlands international, especially since Xavi's arrival.

However, they are not considering signing him outright or extending the loan for another year.

Jordi Alba

The Spanish full-back is in the same situation as Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique. He will decide when the time is right to leave Barcelona.

He has won everything at the club and is one of the most respected players on the team. He has earned the right to decide and continues to play without competition for his place.

The club's idea is to sign a left-back, but Alba will continue to be a starter.

Ferran Torres

A recent arrival at the club, Ferran Torres is going nowhere this year.

He will have to improve his performances after a dip in form towards the end of the season, but Xavi is confident he will remain a key part of the team.

Sergi Roberto

The Spain international's contract ends this summer and he is set to sign a new contract.

However, he is by no means untouchable and if an offer arrives that the footballer is interested in, Barca will not stand in his way.

Frenkie de Jong

The Dutch midfielder is a regular starter, but he may be the one they decide to sacrifice for several reasons.

His performance have not lived up to expectations, they will get a significant fee if they sell him and will get rid of a big salary.

If an offer of more than €60 million arrives, Barcelona will seriously consider selling.

Oscar Mingueza

Although he often fills in when needed, some of his performances have generated a lot of doubt about his ability to play for Barcelona.

The club would rather sell the 23-year-old centre-back, whose contract ends in 2023.

Samuel Umtiti

Despite accepting a contract with a reduced salary in December, his wages are still too high for the club.

That makes offloading him one of the most difficult deals for the Camp Nou side.

If there is a proposal that appeals to him, Barcelona are willing to let him go for free.

Eric Garcia

The defender is regarded as another unsellable asset. Xavi sees him as one of the key figures for the future, especially when Gerard Pique retires.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang has had a significant impact at Barcelona since his arrival earlier this year.

Many at the club are amazed by his 11 goals in 16 La Liga matches, but he will not be the starting striker next season.

Although his salary will increase, he will likely stay at the club.

Gavi

Gavi is another untouchable figure at Barcelona and will be offered a new contract.

His significance in the team will continue to grow and he intends to become a success at Camp Nou despite interest from some big European clubs.

What about the players out on loan?

Antoine Griezmann is the most significant figure on loan elsewhere this season. He will stay at Atletico Madrid for another year before joining permanently in a €40m deal.

Miralem Pjanic will not sign for Besiktas and will return to Barcelona, but they will look to sell him immediately. The same goes for Francisco Trincao, who is on loan at Wolves.

Alex Collado has played well at Granada and will be given a chance to impress Xavi in pre-season on his return, while Inaki Pena will likely be Barcelona's second-choice goalkeeper when he gets back from Galatasaray.
