Gallagher has been 'targeted by Klopp as part of a Liverpool's rebuild'

Chelsea's Conor Gallagher has reportedly emerged a summer transfer target for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp seeks to rebuild his midfield.

Klopp has identified midfield as a key area to strengthen during the transfer window, with the Reds having endured a difficult season.

Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham has been heavily linked to Liverpool, while Wolves' Matheus Nunes and Chelsea's Mason Mount have been of strong interest.

Liverpool could turn to Mount's Chelsea team-mate Gallagher in their search for reinforcements.

According to the Independent, Liverpool believe Gallagher's energy would be valuable to the team and believe the England international could go up a level should he move to Anfield.

A move could be made possible with Chelsea facing the prospect of having to sell several players to meet Financial Fair Play rules.

The Blues have reported losses of £121m last campaign - which followed a loss of £153.4m the season before.

Chelsea have since spent £500m on new additions over the past two transfer windows.

Gallagher has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, but 21 have come as a substitute.

The 23-year-old has previously received interest from Newcastle and Everton, while manager Graham Potter has said Gallagher is 'rightly frustrated' by his lack of game time.

Gallagher, who has won six caps for England, is contracted at Chelsea until 2025.

Should he make the switch between Chelsea and Liverpool, it would be a rare transfer between the two clubs.

Daniel Sturridge was the last senior player to make a permanent move between the two clubs when he signed for Liverpool back in 2013, while Dominic Solanke joined the Reds in 2017 when his Chelsea contract expired.
