According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma were close to signing Endrick on loan this summer, but a phone call from Mourinho persuaded the player to remain at Real Madrid. A winter transfer may now be back on the agenda.
Roma were close to completing a signing that could have strengthened their attacking options, but Mourinho's intervention derailed the deal at the last moment. Roma will face Real Madrid at the Stadio Olimpico on October 14, and Endrick may feature for the visitors. He was originally expected to play for Roma in that Champions League match and had a genuine chance of starting.
According to reports, Endrick was very close to joining Roma this summer. Sporting director D'Amico had been quietly pushing the deal and had secured Real Madrid's approval. Roma initially wanted a loan with an option to buy, then the two sides discussed a pure loan with the possibility of extending the terms. Endrick himself was keen on the move, having realized that with Mbappé's arrival, he would struggle for playing time at Real Madrid. Months earlier, he had been loaned to Lyon to maintain his match fitness ahead of the Copa América.
Endrick's move to Roma to play under De Rossi was nearly complete. Then a phone call from Mourinho halted the transfer. He promised Endrick: "Don't worry, stay, and I will give you opportunities." Endrick was uncertain at the time, but it was difficult to refuse Mourinho.
Has that promise materialized? So far, it clearly has not. Endrick has made only one appearance this season, playing 4 minutes against Elche. Ancelotti commented on the situation: "The problem with young Brazilian players is that they cannot develop because they don't play. This is the case with Endrick, and also with talents like Estêvão. Without playing time, they cannot improve. We have many very gifted young players, and we must prioritize their development. Endrick will be an important player for Brazil in the future, but he must play."
This situation has prompted Endrick's representatives to contact Real Madrid again. The 2006-born winger wants more minutes, and the possibility of another loan in January has resurfaced, similar to his earlier spell at Lyon. Roma remain interested and are prepared to reopen negotiations.
De Rossi believes Endrick can operate across all attacking positions, and Roma still lack a creative attacking talent of his caliber. Endrick is willing to join; only Mourinho's green light is needed. If approval is not forthcoming, Roma will pursue alternative targets.
