Villarreal were many people's pre-season tip to challenge for a top-four spot this season, but the Yellow Submarine could only muster a 1-1 draw at home to Huesca in Unai Emery's first game as coach at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Shortly before half time, in the 42nd minute, a well-worked Huesca move on the left-hand side of the pitch led to the newly-promoted side working the ball across, as right-back Pablo Maffeo was able to receive the ball, take one touch and then fire a left-footed shot past Sergio Asenjo to give the visitors the lead.
Huesca looked like the most likely team to grab the game's next goal in the early part of the second half, but Villarreal striker Paco Alcacer then gave Francisco's side a fright after hitting the woodwork from an acute angle.
Shortly after, in the 66th minute, a Gerard Moreno flicked header from a Villarreal free-kick hit the hand of Josue Sa and a penalty was awarded after a VAR review.
The Spain international stepped up and, despite former team-mate Andres Fernandez going the right way, there was enough behind the shot for it to be beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
Neither Villarreal nor Huesca could find an equaliser as they had to settle for a share of the points.

It’s still very early to draw a conclusion... it’s a new coach and new season, so they still have a very long way to go... Even Norwich started last season strongly and end up relegating

you know in Science what can be proven is said to be correct. its not the first time I'm asking you the question. A proper answer is better rather than turning round. Let me ask again : @billydedon where are you coming from?

I hope I'm not the only one seeing it as a bad result. A club like Villlareal should have beaten Huesca
Huesca defend very well and they where dangerous with counter but the performance i saw from Villarreal was not a convincing one.

I know most of the people commenting didn’t even watch the match but they just judge statistically which is so wrong... Villarreal had a very good match and I think they might have a good season if they continue playing with just some improvements... Good Ebening Eberyone
